What Is the Cox Technic for Spinal Manipulation?

Andrew “Andrea” Perrone is an alumnus of the University of Bridgeport who earned a doctor of chiropractic degree from Life University. Since 1999, Dr. Andrew Perrone has treated patients out of Perrone Wellness Center in Hackensack, NJ. Among other treatment methods, he specializes in the Cox Technic.

A non-surgical, hands-on spinal manipulation, the Cox Technic is performed by a chiropractor while the patient lies on the proprietary Cox Table, which is specifically designed to allow for the effective administration of decompression adjustment and flexion-distraction. The system is governed by the rule of 50 percent, which refers to a reported 50 percent decline in pain symptoms by the patient. If this isn’t achieved, surgical consultation and intervention may be required.

Flexion-distraction and decompression helps relieve spinal pain by restoring motion to spinal joints and reducing pressure on their nerves. it also drops intradiscal pressure and widens the spinal canal area by 28 percent. Typically, patients require around a dozen visits in one month to alleviate lower back and neck pain. More visits are required for a disc herniation. This technique can also reduce pain associated with a slipped or ruptured disc, facet syndrome, or spondylolisthesis.

Acupuncture is a therapy that has been widely used in Asia for many centuries, and that seeks to restore energy flow within the body while balancing the body, spirit, and mind using thin needles inserted into the skin at specific points. This treatment works in combination with the electromagnetic fields within the body to influence the tissue, organ, musculoskeletal, immune, hormone, and nervous systems to rebalance, heal, and repair themselves. By balancing the energy meridians of the body using acupuncture, communication within the body’s systems is restored.

Acupuncture treatments are effective for relieving conditions such as chronic headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, allergies, fibromyalgia, sciatica, and others. The risks associated with acupuncture are low, and the benefits of the treatment are widely recognized. Acupuncture has steadily gained popularity since it was first introduced to America in the 1970s, and is increasingly becoming integrated into Western medical practices.
